Fundamental Purpose
The purpose of the EasyLiving Home certification program is to promote the building of homes with features that make a home more livable for all homeowners and their visitors. As a builder participant, you agree to uphold these fundamental principles in all your actions associated with the EasyLiving Home program as follows.
Builders in the EasyLiving Home program agree that their homes will include at a minimum the following features:
- Easy Access with a step-free entrance of not more than 1/2 inch from a driveway, sidewalk, or other firm surface into the main floor of the home.
- Easy Passage throughout the home because the exterior door that provides the step-free entrance and EVERY interior passage door on the main level (including bathrooms) must be at least a 3’0” or 2’10” door, or a 2’8” pocket door, or other solution that provides 32 inches of clear passage space. If desired, the door to a bathroom can be hinged out, like a closet door, to provide more interior space. Closets are not required to meet the 32-inch clear passage standard, but this can be an added advantage where feasible.
- Easy Use because the main floor includes a kitchen, some entertainment area, a bedroom, and at least one full bathroom with designated maneuvering space (30” x 48” rectangle adjacent to the sink, shower or tub, and commode).
All advertising, marketing, displaying of materials, or similar activities will promote an EasyLiving Home as a home for everyone rather than a specialty home for people with disabilities or older adults. Participants agree to seek prior approval from the Statewide Independent Living Council of Georgia, Inc. (owner of EasyLiving Home ) or its designee prior to taking any action that may be inconsistent with this Agreement.
